A note about the new “Use international sorting rules” option...
This option controls how SimpleImage sorts items by file name in the Open and Item menus, as well as the order in which SimpleImage displays items in a disk slide show when sorting by file name.
When this option is turned off, sorting in SimpleImage 2.0.1 works as it did in version 2.0 — it sorts using the sorting rules of the Macintosh file system, which are essentially English sorting rules, and ignores the settings of the “Text” control panel.
When this option is turned on, file name sorting in SimpleImage uses the sorting rules of the language specified in the “Text” control panel. For example, when the sorting language is Norwegian, the letters ‘æ,’ ‘ø,’ and ‘å’ come after ‘z.’ (If you want to try it out, remember that you have to restart your Mac to make any changes to the “Text” control panel take effect.)
If your Mac is set to use the sorting rules for English or any language whose sorting rules are the same or similar, you should probably leave this option turned off, since turning it on can slow down the creation of the Open and Item menus and won’t have much if any effect on the sorting order. The only reason you might want to select the option in this case is if you’ve installed an extension that modifies the way the Mac sorts strings.
For example, if you use “Natural Order,” an extremely nifty freeware extension which forces the Mac to sort numbered file names correctly (putting ‘image10.jpg’ after ‘image2.jpg’ instead of before it, as the Mac would normally do), its modifications to the way the Mac sorts file names will not affect SimpleImage unless the “Use international sorting rules” option is turned on.
